The Schomberg Minor Hockey Association (SMHA) was formed in 1961 as a way to provide organized hockey for all of the youth in the Schomberg and surrounding areas.  An Executive was assembled of volunteers to organize and supervise the various teams and manage record keeping.  Over 50+ seasons later, this structure is still in place today and continues to be driven by a hard working team of volunteers.  Since 1963, the Schomberg Community and Agricultural Arena has been called "home" for the SMHA and all the children who have learned to play the game.  On Friday March 25th, 2011 the last official game was played in the arena by our Midget Rep Red Wings versus Whitby Wildcats.

The SMHA opened its 50th season in the all new, state of the art, TRISAN CENTRE, in Schomberg in the fall of 2011.  This new facility offers a larger ice surface, additional change rooms and increased recreational facilities.  Although the "old barn" will always be missed, the association and its membership are enjoying creating new memories in its new home.

SMHA Annual Achievement Awards

The Schomberg Minor Hockey Association Awards are given out at the annual Awards Banquet held in April.  This is a special, end of the season event, which recognizes all teams and highlights the hockey year they have shared together.  The Achievement Awards give SMHA the opportunity to recognize those players who have made an individual impact within our hockey community.  Each year, these awards are presented for outstanding achievements in all areas of the game.  They showcase exceptional dedication, personal improvement, participating with heart and sportsmanship throughout the entire hockey season.

The recipients of these various awards have made a notable and outstanding contribution to minor hockey in Schomberg. They show their pride and commitment to the game and strive to “do their best” each time they step onto the ice.  These motivated young players have gained the attention from members of our hockey Association.  All award nominees are chosen by the Coaching Staff of their respective teams.  Final Overall Association Awards are voted upon by the SMHA Executive Board for that season.

There are five different awards, although both Local League and Rep. winners go onto the same trophy together. These Awards are given to the following Divisions of Local League and Rep.: Atom, PeeWee, Bantam and Midget.

Heart Trophy  (donated to SMH by the Rice Family)

MVP  Trophy  (donated to SMH by the Archibald Family)

Most Sportsmanlike Trophy   (donated to SMH by the Finley Family)
