The Schomberg Red Wings Minor Midget LL hockey team won the Neil Barker House League Tournament in London on the weekend of January 20th.
The boys came ready to play their first game on Friday against the Barrie Athletic Club which they won 6-0. They played again Friday night against the Barrie BDO team with another win 5-0.
On Saturday night the boys again showed that passing and team play rewarded them with another victory 5-2 against the Kitchener Cruisers sending them to the semi finals.

The Schomberg Redwing Major Midget LL hockey team won the Palmerston Tournament on January 14, 2012. The weather outside was bitter cold but the Schomberg team was red hot when they needed to be, going 3-0-0 and outscoring their opponents 17-11. Our Redwings defeated a stubborn Chatsworth team 7-5 and a strong Guelph team 6-3 in the round-robin. Both forward and defensive lines played each game with intensity and proved to themselves, their challengers & all spectators that they were there to dominate this tournament. Finally, they captured the championship with a well-played, nail-biting 4-3 win over the tough-to-beat Woolwich team. A huge thank you to all of our parents for showing such enthusiasm & support throughout the day and to the Palmerston Minor Hockey organization for a well-run tournament.

Fun Weekend for Red and White IP Teams

It was a great weekend as the Schomberg Red Wings IP teams traveled to Beeton last weekend for their first games of the year. Everyone looked great in their official jerseys as they took to the ice.
On Saturday, the IP Red Team played an exciting game as the score was pretty even for the first half of the game. Schomberg took the lead with a few back to back goals and some tricky plays from the team. The cheering section stayed warm in one of the coldest arena’s with all the excitement. By the end of the 3rd, Schomberg was ahead by one goal. Everyone started to celebrate until we were gifted with an extra 7 minutes and 4th period. The Red Wings held onto their lead and won the game 10-7!
On Sunday, the IP White Team took on the same Beeton squad and again were very evenly matched. Schomberg broke out to an early lead of 2-0 but Beeton came back to tie it up in the second period. It was a back and forth game but Schomberg was unable to beat the hot Beeton goalies in the end and lost 6-5. What a great weekend for our Schomberg IP Red Wings.
Way to go Schomberg Red and White IP!
Red Wings Pee Wee Local League Team wins B Finals Championship

On Saturday, Jan. 7 Schomberg Red Wings Pee Wee Local League hosted their Annual Red and White Tournament and came out winners.
Hard work and sheer determination awarded our boys last weekend. In a very tough Game One they came up short vs. the very strong (and much bigger!) Bradford team. This loss took us to the B side of the tournament. Game Two vs. Georgina was a nail biter! The game was tied until the 3rd, when Cameron Clarke, new to the sport this year, shot in the tie breaker goal. Michael McGuire solidified the win with our third and final goal of the game. Game Two saw both newcomers Riley Schilger and Clarke score their second goals of their rookie season. Final score a victorious 3-1. Our final game started off very strong with us ahead 4-0 in the first when Erin-Hillsburgh had the luxury of a second goalie to sub in. Even then we went on to score one more time and the game ended in a 5-2 victory. Captain Cameron Goodyear scored two goals, one Bobby Orr style flying through the air and our new team mate Luke Hollander capitalized on rebounds and scored twice leaving the fifth goal scored with finesse by Assistant Captain Sam Hoare. Our one and only goalie, Oakley Dobson made some pretty big saves in the last periods of both games to save the wins and was awarded MVP. With a team made up of mostly minor peewees, a couple of rookies and some new faces to the team, we have come together as a team like no other. These boys sure have a lot to be proud of. Congratulations to all the team for a day well played.
An entire team of dedicated parent volunteers helped throughout the day. Without them, the day would have been impossible. Thank you.
Thanks to the Schilger Family for generously sponsoring an hour of ice time.

“All Schomberg” Final in Atom Local League Red & White Tournament
Wednesday, 11 January 2012 11:06
Submitted by Joe Streef
Schomberg Atom Teams finished 1,2 in their recent Red and White Local League Tournament held over the Christmas holidays. Two teams each from Oro, Bradford and host Schomberg participated in the event.
Schomberg #2 went undefeated in their first two games against Bradford and Oro, establishing early leads that they never gave up. Schomberg #1 also won two very close games against their Bradford and Oro opponents, winning each time by a goal. This set up an “All Schomberg” Championship Final!
Schomberg #2 MVP, Jackson Bain, opened the scoring and gave his team a lead that held up for quite some time. Both Schomberg goalies, Matthew Brunato (Team #1) and Sam Howe (Team #2) were solid. Schomberg #1 MVP, Jacob Klissouras, tied the game and then things got frantic. Schomberg #1 was assessed a penalty but Jacob Klissouras was able to break past the Schomberg #2 defense and score shorthanded. Now, Schomberg #1 had the lead. In the dying minutes of this Championship game, Schomberg #1 was sent to the penalty box once more. Schomberg #2 quickly took advantage of that. They pulled their goalie and put incredible pressure on Schomberg #1 who held on to claim victory.
Both Schomberg teams played an exciting and entertaining game.
Special thanks are given to the organizers and volunteers who helped make the Tournament such a great success.
