They have hosted the first league game to be played in the new Trisan Centre, and participated in the opening ceremony of the only AHL/Toronto Marlies game to be played in King Township.
Most recently the boys registered another first; winning the first SMHA Red and White Tournament on Trisan Centre ice. The tournament was hosted in fantastic fashion by their own Schomberg Minor Hockey Association on Friday, October 28 through Sunday, October 30.
The coaching staff and players are extremely thankful for the work performed by the parents and SMHA executive. The contribution of the ice sponsors is also greatly appreciated.
During the preliminary rounds, the team produced plenty of offense, while fine-tuning its defensive play. They defeated the Huntsville Otters 8-0 and Strathroy Rockets 6-0. An exciting empty-net, final-second goal salvaged a 3-3 tie against the tough Manitoulin Panthers team, setting up a rematch for the championship final.
Inspired by a rowdy and good-looking mob of red and white fans, the Red Wings scored early and often to defeat Manitoulin and win the tournament by a score of 8-0.
The team recognized hard-skating Billy Cober’s work as critical to their positive experience and home ice advantage.
Nifty Red Wings’ forward Ethan McNaughton was recognized as Schomberg’s tournament MVP.
A source close to the team was quoted as saying, ”The boys passed the puck with precise, selfless beauty. They defended their Trisan Centre ice with conviction, and thrilled their coaches with their intelligent, intense, and unselfish play.”
The team consists of:
The Buzz Saw Line is Luke Burleigh, Cameron Kokelj, and Ethan McNaughton. The Smash & Weave Line is Tyler Jacobs, Leo O’Hara, and Wesley O’Hara. The SPF Burn Line is Eric Smith, Luciano Panezutti, and Aaron Fraser.
Blue liners Tom Tomlinson and Dylan Di Girlolamo make up the Rock & Roll pairing, while fellow defensemen Stuart Barber and Adam Rode form the Stop & Go pairing.
Goaltenders Willy Tomlinson and Reed Spinola form The Great Wall of Schomberg.
